NIJ certification allows for up to 44mm of blunt trauma against the test fixture. Because of minute variations in the consistency of the backing clay, size of the test sample, temperature, humidity, velocity and even the test lab itself, comparisons between different models should not be attempted. In order to mitigate the effects of blunt force trauma, ArmorShield™ developed and patented (US Patent 4,774,724) a Blunt Trauma System (BTS) that provides excellent trauma attenuation. The BTS protects vital organs while reducing blunt trauma by up to 70%. Best of all, the BTS does not restrict body movement or add additional weight to your armor. In fact, the BTS is actually lighter than conventional soft trauma pads while offering over twice the area of protection.
